This tour can only be taken as an add-on to the Vietnam tour and begins in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam.
After completing the Vietnam tour the day before – and staying at the Victoria Hotel, Chau Doc last night – this morning we transfer from our hotel to Victoria Pier. Here we board our speed boat waiting to take us up the mighty Mekong across the border into Cambodia. Upon arrival at Phnom Penh city, Cambodia's capital, we are welcomed and transferred to our hotel for check-in.
We then enjoy a guided city tour taking in highlights such as the Central Market (Psah Thmei) as well as a visit to Wat Phnom, a small hill crowned by an active wat (pagoda). This marks the legendary founding place of Phnom Penh.
Full day of Phnom Penh city with Notorious Tuol Sleng Museum and Kiling Field of Cheung Ek is situated 15 kilometers south-west of Phnom Penh and made famous by the film of the same name "The Killing Fields", the Royal Place, built by King Norodom in 1866 on the site of the old town, and the Silver Pagoda, Raung Damrei Museum. And then move to National Museum of Fine Arts, next to the Royal Palce was dedicated by king Sisowath in 1920.
Take the short flight for Siem Reap from Phnom Penh Airport.
In the afternoon, We drive to Kampong Phluk Village. Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of stilted houses built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap about 16 km southeast of Siem Reap. The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3000 inhabitants between them. Kampong Phluk's economy is, as one might expect, based in fishing and shrimp harvesting.

Morning transfer to the South Gate of Angkor Thom and visit the famous Bayon Temple, Royal Enclosure, Terrace of Elephant, Phimean Akas, Terrace of Leper King and Ta Prohm Temple. In the afternoon, transfer to the famous World Heritage “Angkor Wat†a unique and stunning blend of spirituality and symmetry, an enduring example of man's devotion to his Gods. It is the largest and undoubtedly the most breath taking of the monuments of Angkor and it is widely believed that it is the largest religious structure in the world.
In the morning we will travel north for about an hour to Banteay Srei to visit a unique project with a distinctly Australian flavour. Cows for Cambodia was the brainchild of South Australian TV host Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello with the support of many Australians including noted central Queensland cattleman Wallace Gunthorpe.
It is essentially a “cow bankâ€. They loan families a pregnant cow. They must look after it and get to keep the calf and give the cow back. It’s about breaking the poverty cycle rather than a direct handout.
The success of this project has been overwhelming, so much so that the long term goal is to have 1,000 cows in the project which will make Cows for Cambodia one of Asia’s biggest Agriculture charity projects.
Lunch at a local restaurant then return to Siem Reap for an afternoon at leisure or maybe a visit to the APOPO visitor centre to see how they train their amazing HeroRATs to find landmines. Cambodia is one of the most land-mine affected countries in the world and APOPO has worked to clear landmines including training African giant pouched rats to sniff out the TNT in explosives in the ground.
Farewell dinner this evening.
This morning, we will visit Les Artisans D’ Angkor and the Old Market where you can see the fresh local produce being sold as well as browse the souvenir stalls.
Transfer to Siem Reap International airport for our flight back home.
